HIP-Cuyahoga Celebrated with Cecil and All the City on Saturday!

HIP-Cuyahoga teamed up with Neighborhood Leadership Institute and Cleveland State’s Community Health Workers to bring the good news about healthy eating and active living in Cuyahoga County at the All City Community Celebration at Wade Oval on Saturday. Cecil Shorts III, an NFL wide receiver from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers attended Collinwood High School. He and his wife are dedicated to the Cleveland community, and organized this event to continue to spread the word about health and wellness around town. HIP-Cuyahoga community ambassadors promoted healthy eating and active living resources around Cuyahoga County, gave out healthy snacks, and engaged with community members to get more folks involved.

HIP-Cuyahoga met over 500 people this past weekend!

HIP-Cuyahoga was thrilled to meet (and give a healthy snack to) over 500 people at the past weekend’s events. On Saturday, HIP-Cuyahoga celebrated with the City of East Cleveland, as the Salvation Army hosted a block party, that included music, food, performances, and a resource fair. On Sunday, we went to support the open streets concelt with CiCLEvia Central. Over a mile of Community College and Quincy were blocked off from automobiles, so that people could participate in non-auto activities like zumba, walking, dancing, bicycling and more! HIP-Cuyahoga helped spread the word from our growing group of partners and community residents, about good food here stores, shared use sites, how to become a community health champion, where to get produce from a farmers’ market, and how to get involved. This weekend, we’ll be at Wade Oval as part of the All City Community Celebration, hosted by Cecil Shorts III. HIP-Cuyahoga will be there from 12:00 – 3:00 pm – stop by and see us!

HIP-Cuyahoga is creating opportunities to be healthier. One of the ways is to work with community partners to open their doors and become #healthmattershere facilities. To promote healthy opportunities that are popping up in Cuyahoga County, Ro Digga from Z 107.9 will visit this FREE Zumba class. Ro Digga will be doing a Facebook Live interview with some folks that helped bring this opportunity to the community and even some of the participants! Will that be you? We hope you can join this fun fitness class! Click here for the flyer.

Franklin D. Roosevelt Academy is one of several facilities throughout Cuyahoga County that have signed policies or “shared use agreements” that state that they will open their doors to allow healthy activities occur at their sites. Churches, schools, community centers, even a dry cleaner have pledged to help the community get healthier. The current list of locations with these policies is on our Shared Use page. Please contact the specific site you are interested in to find out the program schedule. We welcome new facilities to join this group. Please call Erika at 216-368-2263 to learn what it takes.
